Good news everyone. The NFL has made a deal with Sling TV parent company Dish network, allowing Sling TV to carry NFL Network and NFL RedZone in time for the 2016 NFL season. This means all Thursday night games will be available on Sling TV throughout the 2016 season. The deal was announced on August 3rd, 2016. However, the details on which Sling TV package the new NFL Networks will be bundled with came out today!
The NFL Network will come standard as part of the Sling Blue package. The package already includes the FOX Regional Sports networks, FS1, and TBS; making it a solid choice for sports fans. Furthermore, the Blue package is multi-streaming, allowing you to stream the Sling TV service to 3 different devices with one account.
However, there is one drawback to this decision. The ESPN networks are part of the Sling TV Orange package. This means if you want all the sports Sling TV has to offer, then you will need to purchase both packages at the discounted rate of $40 per month. This would provide access to all NFL Monday Night and Thursday Night games. NFL RedZone will be available as part of the Sling TV “Sports Extra” add-on package for an additional $5 per month.
While this price pushes the cost of cutting the cord with Sling TV close to $100 a month when you include the cost of internet access, there is no contract to join the service. This allows customers to cancel all or a portion of their service whenever they like. For NFL fans I would recommend picking up both services during the NFL season, then dropping either the Blue or Orange package when the season is over depending on which package you enjoy more. This would make the yearly costs a little more manageable.
My hope is that Sling TV will eventually offer a more affordable way to enjoy both packages. In my opinion, the price is currently a bit too steep. This will need to be remedied if Sling TV wants to remain competitive with PlayStation Vue.
