  • We live in Chicago suburbs. We have just cut the cord and have purchased ROKU! We are signed up for your newsletter - you are great, by the way! Very helpful... You recently put out a podcast on watching the NHL. Right now we are paying for DirectvNOW. We are transplants from MICH and want to be able to WATCH the DETROIT RED WINGS games - is there any possible way that we can do that. Thank you in advance, my friend, for your advice and help!

    • Since you are not in the Red Wings local market you should be able to watch them on NHL.TV. However, if the Red Wings are playing the Black Hawks the game will be blacked out in your area. There will also be a blackout for a game that is aired nationally on something like ESPN, but there are ways to get those national broadcast channels.

Thank you for the kind words. Hope this helped.

  • NHL hasn't been on ESPN in over a decade. Any games on NBCSN and NHL Network would be blacked out + the Chicago games.

    • Right. Which is why I said "Something Like ESPN" i.e. a national network. I don't have cable and watch on NFL.TV so I forgot ESPN gave up its hockey coverage. I also mentioned the black-hawk blackout. For an in-depth look check out how to watch the NHL online.
