Released in 1989, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is one of my favorite movies from my childhood. While the sequel Bogus Journey was panned by many, I still enjoy rewatching the film every few years. What’s not to love about the charming, goofy, time-traveling duo of Bill S Preston Esq. And Ted Theodore Logan. We get one more adventure this Friday, August 28th, as The Bill and Ted franchise becomes a trilogy with the release of Bill & Ted Face the Music.
This third installment sees Bill and Ted in middle age with families of their own yet to create that song that unites the word and brings peace to all nations and cultures. With the fabric of time and space falling apart, a visitor from the future warns only their song can fix the universe from unraveling. William Sadler revisits his role as Death, a.k.a. The Grim Reaper with Erinn Hayes and Jayma Mays reprising their roles as the “historical princess babes.” The film is sure to be full of easter eggs for fans to enjoy.
Getting this movie made had been no easy feat for Alex Winter (Bill) and Keanu Reeves (Ted). I ran into Alex Winter in a bar attached to a historic theatre in Baltimore last year. He was brimming with excitement that they were approaching the finish line on the idea of announcing this third installment of Bill and Ted. Winter explained he and Reeves have been trying to get this movie made for about a decade, but the confusion over who owned the rights delayed them at every turn. This labor of love for the duo comes to fruition August 28th as Bill & Ted Face the Music comes to drive-ins and Streaming Services worldwide.
