This article will explain how you can watch every NBA game this season without cable, whether the games are in-market, out-of-market, or nationally televised. I also link to a guide for watching every NBA team this year. Each includes how to watch each team’s next game and games all season long.
Watch Your Favorite NBA Team Without Cable
For the 2023-2024 NBA season, I put together a guide specific to each team. The articles below will explain how to watch that team for fans who live both inside and outside that team’s TV market.
Watching NBA Games (In Market)
If you live in the TV market of the NBA team you want to watch, you will need a streaming service that carries your local team’s regional sports network. You will also want the networks that carry nationally televised NBA games during the season like ESPN, ABC, and TNT. You may also want a streaming service that provides NBA TV. With that in mind, DIRECTV STREAM will be your best option to watch your local team during the NBA season.
Some may ask why I don’t mention FuboTV. And while FuboTV is an excellent service for many reasons, but they don’t have TNT in their channel lineup, which leaves out a lot of great NBA games.
DIRECTV STREAM
DIRECTV STREAM is the best option for watching your local NBA team this season. DIRECTV STREAM is a live streaming service that carries ESPN, ABC, and NBA TV. Furthermore, the service carries the regional sports network for every NBA Team, except for the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers. To get the regional sports network in their area, NBA fans must sign up for DIRECTV STREAM’s “Choice” channel plan for $108.99 per month. You can sign up online, and they provide a a 5-day free trial. They don’t force you into a contract, and you can cancel at any time.
The service also includes a cloud DVR service and allows you to simultaneously stream to an unlimited number of devices in the home, and up to 3 outside the home. DIRECTV STREAM is supported on Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, iOS, Android, Roku, and more. See our review of DIRECTV STREAM for more details on this streaming service. YouTube TV
If you live in Philidelphia, you are likely wondering what your options are for watching every NBA game this season. Luckily, YouTube TV carries ESPN, ABC, and TNT for watching NBA Games. They also carry the NBC regional networks for the following teams:
- Boston Celtics
- Golden State Warriors
- Philadelphia 76ers
- Portland Trail Blazers
- Washington Wizards
YouTube TV also carries ESPN, ABC, NBA TV, and TNT in its basic channel lineup. YouTube TV costs $65 per month after a 1-week free trial. There is no long-term contract, and if you cancel within the trial period, you will not be charged. YouTube TV supports Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, and more. The YouTube TV app has also returned to Roku devices after settling a dispute between the two companies. Check our review of YouTube TV for more details.
Hulu Live TV
For some NBA fans, there is a cheaper alternative to DIRECTV STREAM. Hulu Live TV carries ESPN, ABC, and TNT for watching NBA Games. They also carry the NBC regional networks for the following teams:
- Boston Celtics
- Golden State Warriors
- Philadelphia 76ers
- Portland Trail Blazers
- Washington Wizards
However, Hulu Live TV doesn’t provide NBA TV, which may cause you to miss out on watching about 100 nationally televised games over the course of this season. Hulu Live TV costs $76.99 per month and you can sign up on their website. Hulu is supported on Roku, Fire TV Devices, Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox One, iOS, Android, and more. Check out our full review of Hulu Live TV for more information on their service.
Watching Nationally Televised NBA Games
If you don’t need a regional sports network and just want to watch the Nationally televised NBA Games, you only need access to ESPN, TNT, and ABC. Of course, DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu Live TV, and YouTube TV carry these channel, but you may be able to save a little money with the following option.
Sling TV
Sling TV is the most affordable option to watch nationally televised NBA games on ESPN and TNT. The Sling TV “Orange” package includes both of those channels in its channel lineup for $40 per month. You can also get NBA TV by adding the “Sports Extra” package for an additional $11 per month. The total cost comes to $51 per month, and you will have all the channels you need to watch every nationally televised game at a lower price than DIRECTV STREAM.
Sling TV does carry ABC if you live in the broadcast range of the following stations: WABC-TV in New York, KABC-TV in Los Angeles, WLS-TV in Chicago, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, KGO-TV in San Francisco, KTRK-TV in Houston, WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham and KFSN-TV in Fresno. Please note that Sling TV charges an extra $5 per month broadcast fee if you live in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia or San Francisco.
ABC will broadcast around 20 games this season, so you may need to look into getting a TV antenna to watch those games if you don’t live in an area where Sling carries ABC. You can download the sling app to Android and iOS devices, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Nexus player, Xbox One, 4th Generation Apple TV, Chromecast, and more. Sling TV offers promotions when signing up. There is no contract, so you can cancel any time. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged for the first month. To learn more about this streaming service, check out our review of Sling TV.
Watching Out-of-Market NBA Games
If you are interested in watching NBA Games that aren’t nationally televised, your best option is the NBA League Pass. NBA League Pass will let you watch every Non-nationally televised NBA game this season. The service offers three ways to subscribe:
- Team Pass – Watch live, out-of-market games for a single team for $13.99 per month or $89.99 per year.
- League Pass – Watch live, out-of-market games for every NBA team for $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
- Premium League Pass – Watch live, out-of-market games for every team for $22.99 per month or $149.99 per year. (commercial-free)
Keep in mind that there are blackout rules in effect. Games won’t be aired live if:
- They are being broadcast on ESPN, ABC, or TNT. (NBA TV is included with a subscription to NBA League pass.
- They are being broadcast where you live on the regional sports network’s broadcast area that owns the rights to air NBA games in your area. You will need a streaming service that carries your regional sports network like DIRECTV STREAM (sign up), to watch those games.
If a game meets either of the above criteria, it won’t be available to watch until three hours after the live broadcast concludes for nationally broadcast games and 3 days if they were broadcast on your local market regional sports network.
If You Want To Watch Every NBA Game This Season: Pick up a subscription to DIRECTV STREAM (sign up) to get all games airing in your local market as they carry the local regional sports network for every team in the US. How To Stream Every NBA Game This Season
I know I mentioned this in the section above, but I wanted to answer this question in its own section. If you want the option of watching any NBA game this season, pick up a subscription to DIRECTV STREAM (sign up) and NBA League Pass (subscribe.) DIRECTV STREAM will provide access to all games airing in your local market as they carry the local regional sports network for every team in the US (except the Philidelphia TV Market, I’ll explain in a second). They also carry ESPN, NBA TV, ABC, and TNT for nationally Televised Games. You can watch every other game (non-televised out-of-market games) with a subscription to NBA League Pass.
If you live in the Philidelphia TV market, DirecTV may not work for you. They currently don’t carry NBC Sports Philidelphia. Therefore you won’t have a way to watch games involving the 76ers.
If you don’t care about watching games involving the team in your local market, then you can combine NBA League Pass (subscribe) with Sling TV (sign up) to get access to ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV. You will still need a TV antenna for ABC, as the network will air around 20 games this season. However, if you want to watch every game, including your local market team, you need to combine DIRECTV STREAM (5-day free trial) and NBA League Pass (subscribe).
