About Cassandro
Gael García Bernal stars as the real-life Saúl Armendáriz, a homosexual amateur wrestler from El Paso, Texas, who rose to international stardom in Lucha libre wrestling. When he creates Cassandro, the proclaimed “Liberace of Lucha Libre,” he transforms the macho world of wrestling, upsetting the expectations of what it means to be a champion.
Cassandro was a critical favorite at the Sundance Film Festival and had a limited theatrical release leading up to its premiere on Prime Video.
