The latest cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth comes to streaming on Friday, January 14, 2022, on Apple TV+. In his first solo directorial outing, Joel Coen (of the Coen brothers) crafts a surrealist, black and white thriller out of one of the most famous ghost stories of murder and madness. Denzel Washington plays the titular Scot, along with Frances McDormand as his Machiavellian wife, who will stop at nothing to see them both rise in power. Both Washington and McDormand co-produce the film as well. Coen treats the suspenseful classic as a thriller, using scale, shadow, and disconcerting camera angles to build suspense and give the movie a surreal effect. The film began a limited theatrical run on December 25 and comes to streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ on January 14. Read on to learn more about how to watch.

About The Tragedy of Macbeth
Joel Coen’s visually stunning and eerie adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic play already has critics abuzz, both for the performances of its strong cast, as well as Coen’s unique, disorienting filmmaking. In The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth encounters a trio of witches who predict that he will become the next King of Scotland. His wife embraces this prophecy and encourages Macbeth to take the matter into his own hands and murder the visiting king in their home. What follows is a bloody tale of murder most foul and one of the most iconic ghost stories of all time. Washington and McDormand are joined by a bevy of riveting stage and screen actors in the cast, including Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson as the ill-fated King Duncan.
