The new slasher horror film They/Them premieres on Friday, August 5, on Peacock TV. Putting a fresh spin on the slasher genre, writer/director John Logan (Skyfall) sought to tell a story that reflected a range of LGBTQIA+ identities and queer empowerment. In They/Them, a group of queer teens are sent to a gay conversion camp that quickly devolves into using more and more psychologically unsettling methods. Even as they begin banding together in protest, a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, and the stakes are suddenly much higher. While it is a true slasher flick in many classic ways, coming from the well-established Blumhouse production team, Logan is clear in the intent on where the true evil lies when it comes to homophobia and conversion therapy.
They/Them stars Kevin Bacon as the camp director (Bacon himself was in one of the grandfathers of summer camp slashers, Friday the 13th), as well as veteran stars Anna Chlumsky and Carrie Preston. The breakout performances are from the young cast, however, Theo Germaine, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, Cooper Koch, Darwin del Fabro, and Quei Tann.
