The latest Pixar computer animation film, Turning Red, comes to Disney+ on Friday, March 11. Inspired by director/co-writer Domee Shi’s own childhood experiences (and co-written with playwright Julia Cho), the film chronicles the struggles of a young girl on the verge of adolescence with changing and fitting in, with a classic Pixar magical bent. Mei is an energetic and outspoken 13-year-old Chinses-Canadian kid who wakes up one day to discover she turns into a giant red panda when her emotions get out of control. What turns out to be part of a family curse, Mei must learn to control her rapidly changing emotions as they try to find a way to contain the curse. Despite initial plans to release it theatrically, Disney and Pixar shifted to a streaming release after the most recent surge in the Covid-19 pandemic. Read on for more about Turning Red and how to watch it online.
