The Burial is a new feature-length film on Prime Video, inspired by true events, about a historic lawsuit between a funeral home owner in Mississippi and a large funeral company from Canada. The film stars Academy Award-winners Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones.
About The Burial
Jamie Foxx stars as Willie E. Gary, a smooth-talking and unconventional personal injury lawyer who takes on a breach of contract case for Jeremiah O’Keefe (Jones). O’Keefe, a prominent businessman in Biloxi, Mississippi, enters a bogus deal with the Loewen Funeral Company chain.
In an attempt to save the man’s family business, Gary takes it to court for O’Keefe, eventually triumphing in a major court settlement. Throughout, the film chronicles the unlikely pair bonding through frustration and humor, all the while working to expose the corporate corruption in the industry.
The film is loosely based on the real events of the 1990s trial between O’Keefe and Loewen and the New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr that documented it.
After an initial theatrical release, the film will begin streaming on Prime Video on Friday, October 13.
