I’m a Virgo is the first TV series from rapper and director Boots Riley. Riley is known for his critically acclaimed film Sorry to Bother You and for fronting the political hip-hop group The Coup. I’m a Virgo was well received when it premiered this spring at SXSW.
The series is a dark comedy centered around Cootie, a 13-foot-tall black man who was hidden away most of his life. He escapes his home and embarks on a modern-day version of the mythical Odyssey. Knowing Boots Riley’s other work, the absurdity portrayed on-screen is only the surface of the deeper themes throughout I’m a Virgo.
