Yet another film based on a theme park ride (for the third time), Disney’s Haunted Mansion finally comes to Disney+ in time for spooky season, arriving on the streaming service on Wednesday, October 4.
A remake of the 2003 Eddie Murphey vehicle, based on the popular ride at Disney parks, 2023’s Haunted Mansion, directed by Justin Simien and written by Katie Dippold, takes on a scarier vibe than its predecessor. The show, about a family who enlists the aid of a team of supernatural specialists trying to rid a mansion of its possessive possessors, stars an impressive cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto.
Despite an impressive cast and massive effects, the film received a pretty rough response from the critics and was considered a bomb–but it found its fans somewhere if the 84% audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes says anything. However, perhaps it will never be quite as delightful as 2021’s slightly goofier take, Muppets Haunted Mansion.
The movie can be streamed on the Disney+ streaming service, home to extensive Disney content, as well as content from ABC, Marvel, Star Wars, and more. There you will find not just the new 2023 reboot, but the 2003 and 2021 (Muppet) films as well.
