The new comedic documentary limited series Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga premieres on Wednesday, September 28, on Netflix. When Wall Street bigwigs plotted to take down GameStop, the beloved video game store that has been a popular spot for millennials and beyond for the last 20 years, a group of said millennials took to the internet to stop them. The gang of misfits and amateur traders banded together through a Reddit group “wallstreetbets,” and fueled a movement to save their beloved store through the tools at their hands: the internet and the likes of Reddit, TikTok, and Discord.
The documentary is produced by award-winning filmmakers Dan Cogan and Liz Garbus, and brings together interviews with key members of the Reddit group, as well as everyday people who supported GameStop, as well as big names in the financial world. They discuss how an unexpected group was able to make a massive shift in how money works, and make an even bigger impact on the survival of a business more powerful people tried to doom to closure.
