How to Watch The Sandman

Published 2022-08-01 By Heather C. Jackson

Dream in front of a mirror surrounded by other characters

The long-anticipated TV adaptation of one of the most popular comic book series, The Sandman, comes to Netflix on Friday, August 5. From the mind of Neil Gaiman (Stardust, American Gods, Good Omens) comes the saga of Morpheus (aka “Dream”), the King of Dreams, the cosmic Endless being who controls all dreams. When Dream (Tom Sturridge) is finally released from more than a century of imprisonment, he must go on a journey across worlds to find what was stolen and fix the chaos created in his absence.

In the struggle to regain his power, Dream must rely on his siblings of the Endless, including his kind and wise sister Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and the twins Desire (Mason Alexander Park) and Despair (Donna Preston). Along the way, he confronts the ruler of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie), and hunts down Theo Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook), a nightmare who escaped the Dreaming in his absence. The extensive cast includes Vivienne Acheampong, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jenna Coleman, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Kyo Ra, as well as the voices of Patton Oswald and Mark Hamill.

Neil Gaiman’s comic series The Sandman was published in 75 issues from 1989 – 1996 and was incredibly popular, as it is today with fans. It was also critically acclaimed and was one of the first few graphic novels ever to be on The New York Times Best Seller list. Gaiman worked on the series adaptation along with David S. Goyer (Blade, Constantine) and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Gray’s Anatomy). Read on to learn how to watch Sandman.
