A Small Light is a limited series based on the remarkable real-life story of Miep Gies. The young woman played a key role in hiding Ann Frank and her family from the Nazis in Amsterdam. The miniseries is told with a modern sensibility and follows the story of Miep Gies (Bel Powley), a carfree and opinionated young woman during a dangerous time to be opinionated. She worked for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber), who approaches her about helping to hide his Jewish family from the Nazis, to which Miep agreed without hesitation. For two years Miep, her husband Jan (Joe Cole), and several other loyal friends watched over the tree families hiding in the secret annex over Frank’s office. A Small Light chronicles how the carefree Miep’s life changed, from full of parties and drinks to daily food runs, cscourning for ration coupons, and sacrafaciing beloved heirlooms for spare money. And how it was Miep who found Anne Frank’s notorious diary and kept it safe until Otto Frank returned and shared it with the world for future generations to read.
