Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is a new animated series that goes into the backstory of the adorable-until-not creatures the Mogwai, as introduced in the 1984 horror film Gremlins. Set in 1920s Shanghai, the young Sam Wing (voiced by Izaac Wong), accepts the dangerous task of taking Gizmo (A.J. LoCascio) home. Years before he became the iconic shop owner Mr. Wing of the films, Sam embarks on a dangerous journey through the Chinese countryside, during which he and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh). In pursuit of them is a power-hungry industrialist bent on adding Gizmo to his growing army of evil Gremlins. The voice cast also includes B.D. Wong, Ming-Na Wen, Matthew Rhys, and James Hong.
