The hit FX series Pose may have ended last year, but it’s not too late to get into it, with all three seasons now available on Hulu. Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals, the show is set in New York’s drag ball scene in the 1980s and 1990s, an LGBTQ subculture within the African-American and Latino communities. In the balls, dancers and models compete for recognition in underground clubs, coming together to form supportive chosen families or Houses, as many of them have been rejected by their birth families. The award-winning show was groundbreaking in many ways, focusing on the lives of members of the outsider queer communities, as well as on the dramatic impact of the rise of AIDS on the community. It featured a primarily queer and trans cast, most notably Billy Porter and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, who both received numerous awards and nominations for their work, with Rodriguez the first ever trans lead nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award.
