The latest Disney animated classic to get a live-action (plus mega CGI) update, Pinocchio debuts on Disney+ on Thursday, September 8, as part of Disney+ Day. This new retelling comes from Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis. The classic story of courage, honesty, and love, in which a wooden puppet embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy, stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio and Tom Hanks as the carpenter Geppetto, who treats his creation as his real son.
The cast also includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Pinocchio’s conscious Jiminy Cricket; Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, who grants Geppetto’s wish for a companion and brings Pinocchio to life; Keegan-Michael Key as the scheming fox “Honest” John; and Luke Evans as The Coachman, a terrifying figure who sweeps Pinocchio off to Pleasure Island. It also introduces a new character, Sofia the Seagull (Lorraine Bracco), and also features Kyanne Lamaya, Jaquita Ta’Le, Giuseppe Battiston, and Lewin Lloyd.
Pinocchio includes many of the beloved songs from the original 1940 animated film, as well as several new songs. Read on to learn how you can watch Pinocchio.
