The miniseries Kindred is a part of FX on Hulu. From Octavia E. Butler’s acclaimed novel comes the story of Dana James (Mallori Johnson), a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has recently relocated to Los Angeles with her white husband (Micah Stock). She finds herself thrown repeatedly back in time, but for what seems like seconds or minutes in her own time are hours in the past. There, she finds herself living as a slave on a 19th-century plantation, one intimately linked to her own family’s past and secrets she never knew. She must race against the clock to find out how to stop the time travel and keep her family line on track. Dealing with interracial relationships, complex issues of identity and heritage, and inspired by slave narratives, Kindred is a genre-busting story. The series also stars Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, David Alexander Kaplan, Sophina Brown, and Sheria Irving. Read more on how to watch Kindred without cable.
