You can now watch the gods on the small screen when Thor: Love and Thunder debuts on Disney+ on Thursday, September 8. While Marvel has gone back to theatrical releases on its major film premieres, it has at least stuck to the tighter release window of having films drop to digital after 45 days. Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth stand-alone Thor movie and the 29th film in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Love and Thunder sees the return of Taika Waititi as director and co-writer (along with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson), and tries to capture the more light-hearted nature of that film with the twist of some 1980s rock and roll and romance. While it isn’t as strong a film and was panned by some critics, it is still a fun ride for Marvel fans.
Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor, God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth), on a journey of self-discovery after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. However, he soon finds himself and his kind threatened by the violent wishes of Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), on a mission to destroy all gods. The film reunites Thor with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi) and sees the return of Thor’s former love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Jane has an even bigger surprise for Thor: she can wield the magical hammer, Mjolnir, and transform into a god-like Thor warrior herself.
Fun fact: the film features a significant storyline about the kids of New Asgard, and the real-life children of the film’s director and stars all play a role. Read on to learn how you can watch Thor: Love and Thunder.
