Watch IFC Online Without Cable

Published 2020-02-17 By Dennis Restauro

Are you looking to watch the U.S. premier of hit British comedy “Year of the Rabbit?” on Tuesday, February 19, 2020? Then you are going to need access to IFC (formerly known as the Independent Film Channel). Thankfully, you can watch IFC without a cable TV subscription. All you need is a streaming device like a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Smart TV, and a live TV streaming service that carries IFC.

Before we go into detail on watching IFC online, I wanted to highlight streaming services that carry IFC. They are below starting with our favorite option.

Philo Is The Cheapest Way to Watch IFC

Of all the ways to watch IFC without cable, the cheapest option is Philo. Philo provides IFC as well as 57 other channels for $20/month. You can check out a 7-day free trial and see if the service will meet your needs. Philo also includes a cloud DVR for you to record shows to watch later.

Philo is supported on Apple iPhone and iPad (running iOS 9 or newer), Android phones and tablets (running 5.0 or newer), Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.

You can use your Philo credentials to sign on to the IFC app and watch at least some of the episodes there.  With online access to IFC streaming, you will never miss great shows like “The Daily Show,” “Brockmire,” “Documentary Now!,” “State of the Union” and more.

See our review of Philo TV for more details on this amazingly affordable streaming service.

Watch IFC on Sling TV

Sling TV’s Blue and Orange package both carry IFC for $30/month. Both plans have over 40 other channels.

Sling TV provides a live stream of IFC so you are able to watch exactly what would be airing on IFC just as if you had cable.  It is included in its Cloud DVR program, so you can record shows for later.

Sling TV is available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and more, so it’s not a problem to enjoy IFC on a TV, tablet, computer, or other smart devices.  There are more channels available on Sling TV than what I’ve mentioned here. To find out more about what Sling TV has to offer, and more information about Sling TV device compatibility, check out this detailed review of Sling TV.

Watch IFC on FuboTV

FuboTV is a good place to go for sports but it offers many other more general channels as well, including IFC. IFC is offered as well as 90+ other channels in its basic package for $64.99/month (after 7-day free trial). The FuboTV app is available on major platforms including AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku, and Amazon FireTV. You can sign up for a 1-week free trial or check out our review of FuboTV for more details.

Watching IFC on AT&T TV Now

AT&T TV Now is another way you can watch IFC. IFC is offered as part of their “Plus” package.

At $55 per month, you get more than 45 channels, while at the highest level of $80 a month you get over 60 including HBO and Cinemax. You can check out everything this service offers by taking advantage of their 7-day free trial or read about it in our AT&T TV Now review.

IFC Streaming on YouTube TV

YouTube TV also offers IFC live online, as well as limitless storage space for recording your shows. Plus, you can watch your library of recorded shows anywhere! The base package includes IFC for $64.99 a month. Youtube TV supports Roku, Android, iOS (includes AirPlay to Apple TV), and Chromecasts/Chromecast-compatible TVs. Check our review of YouTube TV to see if it’s available in your area

Watch on the IFC App

Some full episodes are available for free on IFC’s web site and app. However, to have the full selection, you’ll need to log in with streaming service credentials, just the same as you would if you had cable credentials. However, only Philo, fuboTV, Sling TV, YouTube TV, and AT&T TV Now are listed among the eligible providers for the web site and app.

The IFC app works on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, XBox, Chromecast, and Amazon Fire.

Purchasing Shows Directly

Alternatively, you could purchase shows through a venue like Itunes or Amazon Prime Video. They vary a lot in price but you might want to consider this option if there are just a few movies you’d like to watch over and over again.
