Don’t Leave Me Behind: Stories of Young Ukrainian Survival is a new documentary airing commercial-free on MTV on Tuesday, February 21, at 10:00 p.m. ET. Marking the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the documentary chronicles the lives of teenage refugees dealing with the traumas of war, from being displaced from their home country to separation from their fathers fighting on the front lines. Filmmaker Nathaniel Lezra takes audiences just miles from the Ukraine border, into Poland where a mass exodus of 5.15 million Ukrainian civilians fled since the attack. Half of the refugees are teenagers or younger. Here in Poland, Lezra follows two teens, Sasha and Dasha, attempting to start new lives and find normalcy in their host country. Active in volunteer work, mental health support, and staying connected to friends and family both nearby and left behind, they try to look toward their futures.
