With Newsy recently being added to Philo’s channel lineup, we wanted to cover how to watch one of the least biased news sources on cable. While MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN tend to skew their news to capture different audiences, Newsy tends to keep to the political center. This guide will cover the best ways to watch Newsy without cable TV and a little about what Newsy aims to do in the world of cable news.
What is Newsy
Newsy was founded in 2008 as a way to watch the news on mobile and the web. While Newsy still has a web presence, it has become a 24-hour live news channel available on cable since the Scripps network was acquired in 2014. Newsy offers live news shows like:
- Morning Rush
- The Briefing
- Today’s Headlines
- Newsy Reports
- Newsy Tonight
While Newsy offers an app on various devices, you will only find recorded clips and updates. To watch Newsy’s live feed, you will need to use one of the services listed below.
How To Watch Newsy without Cable
Newsy is available to watch live online through Philo, Sling TV, fuboTV, and YouTube TV. Let’s learn a little about each of these services.
Watch Newsy on Philo
The most affordable way to watch Newsy is through Philo. Philo is a streaming service that offers Newsy and many other top TV networks typically found on cable TV for just $20 per month.
You can watch Newsy and other channels through Philo on up to three devices at the same time. They even include a cloud DVR. Philo is currently supported on Mac and PC on a web browser, Apple iPhone and iPad (running iOS 9 or newer), Android phones and tablets (running 5.0 or newer), Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku. You can also stream Philo to your TV with Chromecast.
The service offers a 1-week free trial. However, if you cancel before the trial expires, you won’t be billed. For more details on the streaming service, please check out our review of Philo.
Watch Newsy on Sling TV
Newsy is available on both of Sling’s basic channel packages (Blue and Orange) at $35 per month each. Sling TV also offers a 3-day free trial so that you can try either plan. All Sling TV Channel options work on Windows and Mac PCs and laptops, Android and iOS devices, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Nexus player, Xbox One, and 4th Generation Apple TV.
For more information on the service, please check out our Sling TV review.
Newsy is on YouTube TV
Newsy is a part of YouTube TV’s channel lineup for $64.99 per month. YouTube TV does include a DVR with limitless storage space for recording shows and news if you like. Plus, you can watch your library of recorded shows anywhere! Youtube TV supports Roku, Android, iOS (includes AirPlay to Apple TV), and Chromecasts/Chromecast-compatible TVs. Check our review of YouTube TV for more information.
Newsy is on fuboTV
Finally, Newsy is available through fuboTV’s “fuboTV Extra” channel add-on package for an additional $6 per month. However, that gets quite expensive, considering fuboTV’s family plan already costs $65 per month. That plan also includes a cloud DVR. The service offers a 1-week free trial. Try it out to see if it will work for you. For more information, check out my FuboTV review.
