The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship began December 26th and will run until Friday, January 5th, 2024. Ten national teams from around the world consisting of their best under-20 players will compete over the next two weeks, with every game airing on the NHL Network for fans in the United States. This guide will explain the best way to stream the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship and include a schedule of each day’s games so you can watch the World Juniors games you want, even if you don’t have cable.
How To Stream The 2024 World Juniors Hockey Championship
Every game of the 2024 World Juniors Tournament will stream on NHL Network. While there are three streaming services that carry the NHL Network, fubo is the best service for watching the World Juniors Hockey Championship as they will provide World Juniors games both live and on demand. The other two streaming services that provide NHL Network in their channel lineup are DIRECTV STREAM and Sling TV.
We cover this information in our guide to watching NHL Network without cable, but I wanted to provide a brief summary of each service and how to watch the World Juniors Tournament.
fuboTV – NHL Network is available on fubo when you subscribe to the Pro-Plan for $74.99 per month and add the fuboExtra plan for an additional $7.99 per month. This service provides a 1-week free trial when signing up.
DIRECTV STREAM – You can watch the World Juniors Hockey Championship on NHL Network with DIRECTV STREAM by adding their Sports Pack for $14.99 per month to their “Entertainment” plan, which costs $79.99 per month. NHL Network is also available on DIRECTV STREAM “Ultimate” plan, but that plan costs $119.99 per month, so it’s more affordable to just add the sports pack to the Entertainment plan. Regardless of how you subscribe, DIRECTV STREAM provides a 5-day free trial.
Sling – You can watch the World Juniors Hockey Championship on NHL Network through the Sling Orange Plan or the Sling Blue plan for $40 per month, then add the Sports Extra package for another $11 per month. Sling currently provides 50% off your first month if you are a new subscriber.
You can watch the World Juniors Hockey Championship on the NHL Network with all three of these services on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS, Android, and more.
How the World Juniors Championship Works
The ten teams competing in the World Juniors Tournament are broken into the following two groups of five teams.
Group A
- Canada
- Sweden
- Finland
- Germany
- Latvia
Group B
- The United States
- Czechia
- Slovakia
- Switzerland
- Norway
Each team plays every member of its group. The top four teams in each group will move on to play in a knockout bracket-style tournament on January 2nd, 4th and 5th.
The two teams that didn’t make it out of the group stage will play a best-of-3 series on Thursday, January 4th. The winner of the series will play in next year’s World Juniors Hockey Tournament, while the loser moves down to the IIHF Division 1A.
