AT&T is no longer allowing new customers to sign up for AT&T TV Now. Instead, they have made big changes to AT&T TV and turned it into their flagship streaming service. If you already have AT&T TV Now, you will still have the same agreement. But new customers will only have the option to subscribe to AT&T TV. Read on to learn about AT&T TV prices, channels, and other features.
What is AT&T TV
AT&T TV is a live TV streaming service from AT&T that offers most of the channels you would receive through more traditional pay-TV services. It’s essentially a way to watch live TV online without needing cable. The service also provides steaming on-demand, a cloud DVR, and more. Previously AT&T TV customers had to use AT&T’s own streaming device to use the service. However, now AT&T TV customers can watch on streaming devices like Roku, Fire TV, and more by downloading the AT&T TV app to their device. AT&T recommends an internet connection speed of at least 8 Mbps per stream for optimal viewing. To watch AT&T TV on three devices at once, 24 Mbps is recommended.
How Much is AT&T TV
AT&T TV offers 4 subscription plans to new customers. The “Entertainment” Package is $69.99 per month for 65+ channels like ESPN, HGTV, Nickelodeon, and more. Priced at $84.99 per month, the “Choice” package offers most of what is available in the “Entertainment” package while increasing the number of channels to over 90 and adding Regional Sports Networks. AT&T TV also offers the “Ultimate Package” with 130+ channels for $94.99 per month. There is also a “Premier Package” which adds HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz for $139.99 per month.
You can try any of these plans by signing up here.
AT&T TV Plans and Prices
Plans and prices are shown in the table below. Each plan allows you to stream on up to 3 devices at once and comes with 20 hours of DVR storage. You can opt for 500 hours of DVR storage for an additional $10 per month. The Choice Package and above come with 1 year of HBO Max and 1 year of 2020-21 NBA League Pass Premium. You can try any of these plans by signing up here. There is no contract for the pricing shown below.
No Contract Pricing
Entertainment | Choice | Ultimate | Premier | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Price | $69.99 | $84.99 | $94.99 | $139.99 |
Channels | 65+ | 90+ | 130+ | 140+ |
Num. of Streams | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
DVR | 20 hrs | 20 hrs | 20 hrs | 20 hrs |
HBO Max | No | 1-Year | 1-Year | 1-Year |
NBA League Pass | No | 1-Year | 1-Year | 1-Year |
You Can Opt For a 2-Year Contract
There is an option to lock yourself into a two-year contract. However, there doesn’t appear to be a benefit to lock you in for 2 years. The promo pricing looks appealing for the first year, but there is a significant jump in price for year two. Furthermore, if you have the “Choice” plan or higher, you are hit with a Regional Sports fee of over $8 a month.
Also, when you opt for the 2-Year contract, AT&T will throw in the DVR upgrade to 500 hours. They also include 1 AT&T TV streaming device. However, you are not required to use it. Adding to the confusion, AT&T TV has taken the “Ultimate” package channel line up and called it “Xtra.” To confuse you even further, there is a 2-year contract channel package called “Ultimate,” but it’s the same channels in Xtra with the addition of Starz, Encore, and TUDN. The table below will show you the true cost per month of AT&T TV with the 2-year contract for the thee most affordable channel packages.
Entertainment | Choice | Xtra (Ultimate) | |
---|---|---|---|
First Year | $59.99/mo | $64.99/mo | $74.99/mo |
2nd Year | $93/mo | $110/mo | $124/mo |
RSN Fee | None | $8.49/mo | $8.49/mo |
True Cost With Contract | $76.50/mo | $95.99/mo | $107.99/mo |
No Contract Price + DVR upgrade | $79.99/mo | $94.99/Mo | $104.99/mo |
When you factor in the cost of carrying AT&T TV with no contract and the DVR upgrade, you save a few bucks a month with the “Entertainment” plans, but other plans actually cost a few dollars more per month. The only benefit I see to taking the contract is protecting yourself from a price increase in the future. If the costs of AT&T TV goes up next year, you will still have your locked-in contract price. However, if you didn’t take the contract and the price increases, you can drop AT&T TV and try another live streaming service. I can’t see a reason to take the 2-year contract.
