Update: The YouTube TV app is once again available on Roku so the workaround described in this article is no longer necessary. To watch YouTube TV on Roku, simply download the YouTube TV app from the Roku channel store.
After Roku removed YouTube TV from the Roku Channel Store, Google has come up with a way to use YouTube TV through the YouTube App. The YouTube app (Not the YouTube TV app) is still supported on Roku. Now when you open the YouTube app, you should see a “YouTube TV” menu option on the bottom left of the screen. Highlight the “YouTube TV” option and select “OK”. This will start an instance of YouTube TV. Just sign in and start watching. After signing in the first time you launch this feature, you won’t need to log in next time you use the YouTube TV in the YouTube App function.
Google also indicated they are still seeking to rectify their disagreement with Roku and restore YouTube TV to the Roku Channel Store. In the blog post, the YouTube TV team wrote:
We’re still working to come to an agreement with Roku to ensure continued access to YouTube TV for our mutual customers. As of right now, existing YouTube TV members still have access to the app on Roku devices. We’re also in discussions with other partners to secure free streaming devices in case YouTube TV members face any access issues on Roku.
